CARIBSCAPE Web Analysis Example
... practice
Technology and Intellect
The Internet is a fast growing medium. The technology is serving to make information available to everyone, everywhere, fast and affordable. "Information is power" and the "level playing field" is already a "virtual" reality. CARIBSCAPE aims to foster the art of expressive, clear and accurate representation of information in its communication.
The organisation of information is an intellectual exercise which must be experienced, before engaging technology, to understand whether the right reasoning has been chosen for its navigation and the right medium for its communication.
Navigation
This entire analysis is written in HTML - the common "low tech" language using hyperlinks to navigate linearly into hierarchical areas of information and laterally to cross reference material in support of a prospective client's enquiries.
Effective information organisation scores more points with repeat users in most media than aesthetics. The combination of information, speed and visual appeal is a fine balance in web design. This can be achieved by the use of simple and identifiable repetition in imaging.
Information Organisation
It is CARIBSCAPE Standard Practice to advise the client on the breaking down and rebuilding of their information into paths that assist the browser in finding their areas of interest. Logical nesting of information makes for easier understanding of the entire site navigation.
The same technique is applied to the actual pages where information is nested in short paragraphs, with sub headings, to attract the attention of the browser to the content for which they may only be scanning.
Interpretation
In order to interpret the hierarchy of information for the proposed EXAMPLE web site, the Index page is illustrated in a profile (expanded outline) format:

The structure provided for consideration, illustrates a number of main topics and nests information with other relative areas (sub-topics) of probable interest. In order to illustrate the logic of the proposed structure use the links provided on that page and

to the different levels of topic headings.
Graphic Illustration Specialist Media
Opinions for graphic illustrations and specialist media to enhance the web site are obtained after consultation with client either during commission or prior to commission as a professional service. This takes into consideration the client's existing hard copy publications and corporate identity.
